Weather words help you describe the day, plan activities, and understand forecasts.

Temperature words (温度):

• hot: very warm (summer)
• warm: nice comfortable heat (spring)
• cool: not cold, not warm (autumn)
• cold: low temperature (winter)
• freezing: very cold (below 0°C)
• mild: temperature in comfortable range (not too hot/cold)
• humid: air feels wet (tropical places)
• dry: no moisture in air

Sky and light (天空与光线):

• sunny: sun shining brightly
• clear: no clouds, blue sky
• cloudy: many clouds, little sun
• overcast: completely covered with clouds, grey day
• gray / dull: no bright light, gloomy
• bright: strong sunlight
• dark: no sunlight, night time
• dawn / sunrise: sun comes up in morning
• dusk / sunset: sun goes down in evening
• twilight: light before sunrise / after sunset

Rain and water (雨与水):

• rain: water falling from sky
• shower: short light rain
• drizzle: very light fine rain
• heavy rain: lots of rain coming down
• downpour: very heavy sudden rain
• thunderstorm: rain + thunder + lightning
• thunder: loud noise after lightning
• lightning: bright electric flash in sky
• snow: frozen white flakes from sky
• sleet: rain mixed with snow
• hail: ice balls falling from sky
• fog: thick cloud near ground, hard to see
• mist: light fog, can see further
• dew: water drops on grass morning

Wind (风):

• wind: moving air
• breeze: light gentle wind
• gust: sudden strong wind
• windy: lots of wind
• gale: very strong wind (can blow trees over)
• hurricane / typhoon: massive storm with circular winds

Weather forecast words (天气预报):

• forecast: prediction of weather
• high temperature: hottest point of day
• low temperature: coldest point of day
• chance of rain: probability of rain (0-100%)
• UV index: sun strength (wear sunscreen when high)
• humidity: how much water in air
• visibility: how far you can see (important for driving)
