身体部位 Body parts

The human body is made of many parts. Learning these words helps you describe pain, go to the doctor, or talk about sports and health.

Head and face (头与脸):

• head: top part of body with brain
• hair: grows on head
• face: front of head
• forehead: above eyebrows
• eyebrow: hair above eyes
• eye: you see with these
• eyelid: covers eye when you blink
• eyelash: hairs on edge of eyelid
• nose: you smell and breathe through this
• cheek: side of face below eyes
• ear: you hear with these
• mouth: food and speech go in/out
• lip: edge of mouth (upper/lower)
• tongue: inside mouth, helps taste and talk
• tooth / teeth: hard white things for chewing
• gum: pink skin holding teeth
• chin: bottom point of face
• jaw: bone holding teeth
• neck: connects head to body

Upper body (上半身):

• shoulder: where arm connects to body
• chest: front of body above stomach
• back: rear of body
• arm: from shoulder to hand
• elbow: middle joint of arm
• wrist: where arm connects to hand
• hand: five fingers, holds things
• palm: flat inside part of hand
• finger: thumb / index / middle / ring / little
• nail: hard part on end of fingers

Lower body (下半身):

• waist: middle of body, where pants sit
• hip: side below waist, above leg
• leg: from hip to foot
• thigh: upper leg
• knee: middle joint of leg
• calf: back of lower leg
• shin: front of lower leg
• ankle: where foot connects to leg
• foot: stands and walks
• toe: five toes on each foot
• sole: bottom of foot
• heel: back part of foot

Inside the body (体内):

• heart: pumps blood
• lungs: breathe air (2 lungs)
• stomach: digests food
• brain: thinks and controls body
• bone: hard structure holding body up (206 bones!)
• muscle: moves bones, makes you strong
• blood: red liquid moving through body
• vein / artery: tubes carrying blood
